Aquaponic In Malaysia

Uncle Loo was a “kampong boy” who use to plant and sell sweet potato leaf the traditional way. He grown up to be a Computer Science graduate and has been in IT Solution Business for more than 15 years. His last exist was a group buy company called www.everyday.com.my. Exited to Livingsocial LLC in 2013. Today, he is planting sweet potato leaf vertically in an urban vertical farm right in the heritage city of Georgetown, Penang.

It all started when a schoolmate shared his experience of learning aquaponics in USA. He was amazed that a small backyard could grow own food to feed a family for their entire life. Meanwhile, his cholesterol level has been going up every year and was sick every 3 months. He need to administer with satins and depends on antibiotics. He decided to make a change and wanted to address the health issues natural way.

He found Steffi Lee, a pioneer aquaponist in Taiwan; founder of AVATA. He is amazed with the way she survived from brain cancer after indulged in aquaponics and hope it could change his health too. He went to Taiwan and learn from Steffi. Avata has change Uncle Loo’s perspective of an urban farm. Uncle Loo, felt so relaxed, enjoyable and starting to dream for an urban farm for himself.

Upon returning to Malaysia, he rented a 7000 square feet bungalow to start his journey. He started to build the dream with his youngest brother Cherng Look. With endless road blocks, failures, hopelessness and tired work, the brothers build the first vertical aquaponics urban farm in Penang. It is the first such commercial farm right in the city in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, his cholesterol level has gone down to 5.7 without medication and no more antibiotics! This is one of the greatest return from all his efforts and investments in the farm.

He believe his success could be duplicated to everyone. He started to teach this most sustainable farming and bring this amazing knowledge to schools. When everyone starts to grow their own fresh and healthy food from home, we collectively reduce farmland used. Lesser machinery and vehicles needed to grow and ship foods to household, saving multimillion tons of carbon footprint each year and moderated global warming.

Now, Uncle Loo and Loo Urban Farm team carry a huge social mission. We hope to continue innovate effective and sustainable planting systems which empower everyone to grow their own fresh and healthy food all around the world. We believe, greener world, healthier live starts from home. With VAAPS, Uncle Loo wish to revolutionize and redefine farming.

Loo Urban Farm, started by Philip Loo, with the initial aim to sustainably produce healthy food for our own consumption. It has then grown and evolved to be a social enterprise that will enable every home to sustainably produce self-sufficient, fresh and healthy food globally.

We continue to innovate, build and distribute our advance and efficient planting system. We educate and lead society as a whole to produce their fresh and healthy food at home or in a community.

By shifting the farm from remote lands to homes, now everyone can enjoy producing fresh food. Food that is free of pesticides, antibiotics and steroids.

We help to reduce farmlands and machineries to produce our food. This food then can be brought to us just from our backyards. These collective green eco-systems will reduce our carbon foot print and global warming.

When everyone starts to grow their own fresh and healthy food from home, we collectively reduce farmland used. Lesser machinery and vehicles needed to grow and ship foods to household. We potentially could save multi millions of carbon dioxide being released in the air every year. That will definitely moderate global warming issues. With that in mind, Uncle Loo innovated VAAPS; Vertical Aquaponics Aeroponics Planting System.

VAAPS integrates aeroponics and vertical farming into aquaponics making it the perfect system to empower every household to grow their own food. A small footprint of 3 by 7 ft can grow 200 plants and 20 fish. That is enough to feed a small family, for their entire live.

Apart from that, VAAPS has many other advantages, such as; plants grow 2x faster – harvest in 20 days instead of 40 days. Grow 20X more vegetables compare to soil. Harvest fish and vegetable at the same time. Pesticide and antibiotic free. Scalable from home planting system to large scale farming. More importantly no fertilizer is needed!

2X Faster Eco Friendly, Zero Pollution
5X Density Save Labor Cost
Single Input Multiple Output Efficient & Easy to Use
Pesticide & Antibiotic Free Save 90% Water
Scalable Small Footprint to Fit Any Home
