Urban Permaculture – Collecting Seeds

Loo Urban Farm want to bring good Permaculture practices to the urban cities and build good Urban Permaculture practices in the cities. We want to make farming in the urban cities practical, commercialize-able, sustainable yet eco-friendly and as close to the nature as possible. We want to revolutionize and refine farming especially in the course of urban farming and future farming methodologies.


One of the common practices in Permaculture is to collect and use our own seeds. Why collecting seed become an important part of Permaculture, Urban Permaculture or Urban Farming? We enjoy many benefits for doing so. There are many farmers in the west who have keep their tomatoes seeds for many generations over decades.

What is Hydroponics?

Before we look at Mr Chen’s farm, let’s take a glance at what is hydroponic.

Hydroponics is a planting method where plants grow in a growing medium with water and nutrients. It is a soilless farming method.

Early hydroponics was traced back to Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Floating Gardens of China this is thousands of years ago.

Composting – My way

Prepare the compose

In the process of clearing grass to prepare for my green house, I was not sure how to handle hips of grass cleared from the land. I then put them all in one empty space and covered them with kanvas. A month later, I found most of the grass has decomposed and there are a lot of earth worms in it. That is very interesting indeed.

Add chicken drops

Based on that experience, I try to improve the method and make my whole process more effecient. I move my chicken barn to a piece of land where I will be planting vegetables a few months later. I cut the grass and through them into the chicken barn. The checken will eat some of the grass. The remaining will dried and start to decompose. As days goes by, chicken drop drops on the grass adding source of N(Nitrogen) to it. As the place has a lot of earthworms, “vermicompsting” started

Continue research and development on vertical system. Improve on existing design. Design modular home system. Making Eco Enzyme


Multi-purpose eco enzyme is green, safe and all natural.
